Former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has requested the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the phone tapping case to postpone his questioning to a later date as he was preoccupied with municipal polls.

The BRS president also requested the SIT to conduct the questioning in his farmhouse in the Medak district instead of Hyderabad.

In a prompt reply to the SIT notice directing him to appear before it tomorrow, Rao, popularly known as KCR, quoted various provisions under Section 160 of CrPC. He reminded the investigating officer that the interrogation should be conducted at the place he resides, his farmhouse in Erravalli. “I would like to remind you that it is mandated by law,” he wrote to the SIT. However, the police have asked him to choose any place of his convenience in Hyderabad.

KCR also requested for a change of date because of his preoccupation with municipal polls. Tomorrow is the last date for the submission of nomination papers for candidates contesting the municipal elections.
“I state that as a former chief minister of the state of Telangana and present leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly and also a responsible citizen of the country, I would like to assure my full cooperation with the said investigation,” he said.

Meanwhile, the BRS slammed the investigations against KCR as ‘political malice’ to malign a towering personality who led the struggle for Telangana’s statehood.

Meanwhile, the state BJP president dismissed the SIT notice against KCR as a “political drama” and demanded a judicial inquiry.

The phone tapping case was filed after the defeat of the BRS in Assembly polls. The allegations are that the regime used the special intelligence branch to tap phones of opponents, businessmen, and even family members in the garb of surveillance on Naxalites.
